D. Scott Brandt

Associate Dean for Research

The Associate Dean for Research reports to the Dean of Libraries and has the responsibility for enabling and fostering research programs in library science within the Libraries. In addition, takes a leadership role in library science practiced in collaboration with interdisciplinary, sponsored research initiatives at Purdue. These responsibilities include: program development and overall direction, budget planning and administration of sponsored research, support of the Libraries faculty in the aggressive pursuit of extramural funds, establishment of strategic relationships with Federal agencies and other funding organizations to enhance the quality, quantity, and funding of Purdue Libraries research including collaboration with Purdue's Colleges/Schools and Discovery Park.

Previously, Brandt served as Interdisciplinary Research Library, and before that was Technology Training Librarian who helped develop ran extensive staff development and training program in the Libraries. Prior to the that, he served as Associate Head of the Engineering and Science Libraries at M.I.T. His Masters in Library and Information Science is from Indiana University, and he has taken 12 hours in Educational Technology, specializing in instructional systems design, at Purdue. He has written 30 articles and chapters on the subject of technology training, and published two books, Unix and Libraries in 1991, and Teaching Technology in 2002. He has presented nationally and internationally on the topic of technology and training since 1991.
