Projects:
Evaluating the collection for its holding of resources in Latin American, Black, or Native American literature.
Potential collection development project, evaluating what HSSE holds in terms of Latino/Hispanic literature.
Potential collaboration with the Latino Cultural Center, evaluating the collection they hold at the center and cataloging it to include within the library catalog as well as comparing their holding to what is already held at HSSE. From results, working on some type of collection development plan to supplement the collection in this subject area.
If LCC collection is cataloged, work on Outreach programming or activity to promote the new cataloged collection and the collaboration between these two institutions, possibly promoting or raising use of both HSSE and LCC collections in the process.
Basic promotion of the resources now available.
General overview of academic librarianship in a large academic library (from general reference opportunities, weeding of materials, work on or promote online resources, such as tutorial, etc.)
Skills/Goals:
Exposure to working on a collection development project, learning how to select materials for a specific subject area
Evaluation of collections, possibly learning deselection or weeding techniques
General reference skills, interaction with public with desk hours?
Outreach opportunities, such as creating programming or activities to create a relationship with a cultural center on campus (i.e. LCC)
Creating online tutorials or finding ways to create greater access to online resources
General exposure/experience working in as many areas as possible in an academic library environment
Archives & Special Collections
December 2006 - February 2007
Projects:
Using primary source documents, photographs, etc. from the archives to create an online exhibit of minorities associated with Purdue throughout the past.
Participating in the George Winter Digitization grant (digitization of papers and artwork by George Winter, an artist who documented Native Americans in Indiana); create resources for teachers and/or students to use the collection in their Indiana History projects
Skills/Goals:
Archival techniques best practices (processing, creating finding aids, etc.)
Digitization techniques (scanning, etc.)

Projects:
Possibility of working with the Krannert Special Collections, such as cataloging, shelf lists, organization, and preparation of collections for move to new Special Collections in HSSE.
Working on digitization of the Krannert alumni Magazine, coordinating the scanning, technical specs, adding metadata, determining access on public website.
General overview of working of departmental library, from reference, collection development of collection, issues concerning access to online materials, etc...
Skills/Goals:
Skills in evaluating special collections holdings (such as which materials should be selected/deselected)
