The principal index for U.S. Govt. documents is the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications HSSE REF & Periodicals 016.353 Un36 which is available online from 1994-present. U.S. Govt. publications can also be searched from 1976-present in the GPO Index on the Purdue Libraries web page.
A useful index for U.S. Govt. statistical publications is LexisNexis Statistical (Purdue users only) and the Congressional Information Service (CIS) Index HSSE REF 328.73005 C76 is a good index for congressional publications.
