HIST 395/495 Divided Germany, 1945-1990 Library Research Guide

Purdue Libraries, particularly the HSSE Library, offers a wide variety of resources for conducting research on topics relating to this course. You can also use the online catalog to find books on particular individuals by doing LSCH searches e.g. Adenauer, Konrad or to find books about particular organizations e.g. Christlich-Demokratische Union Deutschlands (Germany: West) for books about the Christian Democratic Party or government agencies such as Germany Auswärtiges Amt for books about that country's foreign ministry. You can also do author searches to search for books by organizations.

JSTOR (Provides access to historical journal articles in the humanities and social sciences. DOES NOT include the most recent five years.)

U.S. Government Resources
The U.S. Government is the world's largest publisher and has produced significant quantities of information on German History during this time period. A good index to begin with is Monthly Catalog of United States Government Publications HSSE Periodicals 016.353 Un36 and online from 1976-present with many recent documents being freely available in full text.

The U.S. Congress and congressional committees are responsible for approving legislation, conducting oversight of federal agency programs, and funding these programs. Consequently, congressional publications are excellent resources for researching American policy toward Germany. Examples of these resources include:
