US Government Statistical Agency Websites

Many U.S. Government agencies produce statistics on a variety of topics. These statistics are compiled because Congress has directed these agencies to compile and disseminate such statistics in order to execute programs these agencies administer. Congress directs these agencies to perform these programs in order to fulfill various legal and public policy requirements. Some of these agencies such as the Census Bureau date back to the earliest years of the United States. Other agencies, such as the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, are more recent creations due to Congress´ belief that they were needed to provide information resources to deal with various public policy issues. The following is a listing of many, but not all, U.S. Government statistical agencies.

Bureau of Citizenship & Immigration	Compiles immigration-related statistics.
Bureau of Economic Analysis	Collects statistics on national and regional economic growth and national economic competitiveness.
Bureau of Justice Statistics	Collects statistics on crime, criminal victims, and judicial system operations..
Bureau of Labor Statistics	Collects statistics on labor topics such as employment, unemployment, and consumer and producer prices.
Bureau of Transportation Statistics	Collects statistics on transportation and individual transportation sectors such as shipping, aviation, and railroads.
Census Bureau	Conducts decennial population census and collects various population and economic statistics including international trade.

Community Planning & Development	Dept. of Housing & Urban Development agency seeking to help communities plan growth and development and provide shelter and services for the homeless.
Congressional Budget Office	Congressional support agency providing research on federal budgetary programs.
Consumer Product Safety Commission	Agency responsible for regulating the safety of many consumer products.
Department of Veterans Affairs	Provides statistics on veterans and veteran care.
Defense Dept. Statistical Information Analysis Division	Defense Department resource providing statistics on military personnel strength, casualties, and defense procurement.
Drug Enforcement Administration	Provides statistics on U.S. Government efforts to stop illicit drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
Economic Indicators	Provides up-to-date statistics on economic activities such as corporate profits, gross domestic product, housing construction etc.
