Selected Purdue Libraries Databases for Film Studies
- America: History and Life: Abstracts of selected journal articles, citations of book and media reviews, and dissertations covering the history of what is now the United States and Canada for all time periods. Covers over 2,000 journals published worldwide. All abstracts are in English. Every year about 16,000 new entries are added. Includes some 6,000 citations of book and media reviews.
- Arts & Humanities Citation Index: A multidisciplinary database covering the journal literature of the arts and humanities; this database indexes 1,100 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals. Searches may focus on authors, contents of individual journals, ranges of publications dates, keywords, and by combinations of the above. An added feature is the capacity to trace citatons to given authors, etc. A Representative selection of non-English language journals is included.
- Contemporary Authors: bio-bibliographical guide to current writers in fiction, general nonfiction, journalism, poetry, drama, motion pictures, television, and other fields. Provides references for more than 90,000 authors in the U.S.. This is part of the database Literature Resource Center.
- Current Contents: This databse is a current-awareness tool, providing access to the bibliographic information and tables of contents from current issues of more than 7500 journals and several hundred books in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. Most records contain abstracts. Major subject areas of this database are: agriculture, biology and environmental sciences; arts and humanities; social and behavioral sciences; clinical medicine; life sciences; physical, chemical and earth sciences; engineering, computing and technology.
- Historical Abstracts: Abstracts of selected journal articles, citations of books, book reviews and dissertations on the history of all parts of the world (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to present. Published since 1954, Historical Abstracts currently covers over 2,000 journals published throughout the world. Besides article citations, each year it adds approximately 3,000 book citations, for a total of over 20,000 entries added each year. All abstracts are in English, and titles in languages besides English also appear in English translation..
- Literature Resource Center: Access and simultaneously search Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select (CLC Select) and Dictionary of Literary Biography and other literature reference tools.
- MLA Directory of Periodicals: Lists over 3,700 periodicals in the areas of literature, language, linguistics, and folklore that are covered regularly in the MLA International Bibliography. The directory provides addresses, advertising rates, and information about submissions for publication.
- MLA International Bibliography: International coverage of the modern languages and literatures, including film and folklore. Indexes jounal articles, and book chapters in all languages, and N. American dissertations. Does not index book reviews.
- Worldwide Political Science Abstracts: Up-to-date indexing, abstracts, and research links in political science and related fields, including international relations, law, sociology, economics, and public administration/policy. Has the backfiles from 1975 onward from two major research databases that have ceased: Political Science Abstracts and ABC POL SCI. Updates coverage to the present and expands international coverage. Includes abstracts of journal articles, book abstracts, book chapter abstracts, book reviews, film reviews, and dissertation info. Has links to full text sites. Monitors 1,235 titles for relevant items, including materials in 34 languages. Basic searches are by author, subject descriptors, and publication type. Advanced searching by many more fields, including source, ISSN, publication year, country of publication, language, and author affiliation. Records are being indexed with a thesaurus of over 3,000 main terms.

- The American Film Institute: is the preeminent national organization dedicated to advancing and preserving film, television and other forms of the moving image. AFI's programs promote innovation and excellence through teaching, presenting, preserving and redefining this art form.
- Association of Moving Image Archivists: is the largest non-profit professional membership association for individuals and institutions concerned with the preservation of moving images. Incorporated in 1991, AMIA was established to advance the field of moving image archiving by fostering cooperation among those concerned with the acquisition, preservation, exhibition and use of moving image materials.
- International Association for Media and History: is an organization of filmmakers, broadcasters, archivists and scholars dedicated to historical inquiry into film, radio, television, and related media. We encourage scholarly research into the relations between history and the media as well as the production of historically informed documentaries, television series, and other media texts.
Motion Picture Association of America: Useful for current information concerning the motion picture industry. - University Film and Video Association: welcomes all who share our interest in the making and teaching of film and video.
