AgEcon Search - Research in Agricultural and Applied Economics

AgEcon Search collects, indexes, and electronically distributes full text copies of scholarly research in the broadly defined field of agricultural economics including sub disciplines such as agribusiness, food supply, natural resource economics, environmental economics, policy issues, agricultural trade, and economic development. AgEcon Search will serve as the permanent archive for this literature and encourages authors and organizations to use this electronic library as the storehouse for additional appropriate scholarly electronic works

AGRICOLA (Agricultural Literature)

AGRICOLA includes citations (with abstracts) to journal articles, book chapters, books, USDA publications, and Experiment Station reports that have been acquired by the National Agricultural Library from 1979 to the present.

Biological & Agricultural Index

Indexes reviews in biological and agricultural journals, including biochemistry, zoology, and microbiology.  Covers 1988 to present.

CAB Abstracts

The CAB database is the largest professionally-produced database covering international issues in agriculture, forestry, and allied disciplines. The database contains over 3 million records from over 10, 000 journals, books, conferences, theses, reports, and other kinds of literature published internationally.  Subjects covered include animal and crop husbandry, animal and plant breeding, plant protection, genetics, forestry engineering, economics, recreation and tourism, veterinary medicine, human nutrition, and rural development. Coverage is from 1973 to the present, with the abstracts in English prepared from papers originally published in over 70 different languages.

Econlit

This is the fundamental research tool in economics. The database covers the international literature on economics since 1969 and provides bibliographic citations, with selected abstracts, of journal articles, books, dissertations and working papers, as well as articles in collective works, such as conference proceedings, collected essay volumes and full text book reviews. Topics include economic development, forecasting, and history; fiscal and monetary theory; business and public finance; international, health care, regional and urban economics, and more.

Agricultural Marketing Service (USDA)

Many of the publications of the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service are now available via the web.  Titles include:  Ocean Rate Bulletin, Agricultural Export Transportation Handbook, and Directory of Freight Forwarders Serving Agriculture.

Agricultural Statistics 2004

Electronic versions of the annual print publication Agricultural Statistics since 1994. It provides data on agricultural production, supplies, consumption, facilities, costs, and returns.  Displays complete publication, by chapter, in PDF format.

CARIS: Current Agricultural Research Information System

The Food and Agriculture Organization CARIS database facilitates the exchange of information about current agricultural research projects being carried out in -or on behalf of- developing countries. CARIS identifies projects dealing with all aspects of agriculture: plant and animal production, post harvest processing, forestry, fisheries, agricultural engineering, nutrition, agricultural economics, rural development and agricultural administration, legislation and education. Information is available on over 30,000 active projects.

This site from the U.S. Census Bureau has the data from the 1992, 1997 & 2002 census.

CRIS: Current Research Information System

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's reporting system for ongoing agricultural research in agriculture, food and nutrition, and forestry. Projects are conducted or sponsored by USDA research agencies, state agricutural experiment stations, the state land-grant university system, other co-operationg state institutions, and particpants in a number of USDA research grant programs.

FAOSTAT Online

FAO Statistics is the statistics database of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.  It is an on-line and multilingual (English, French, & Spanish) database currently containing over 1 million time-series records covering international statistics in the following areas: production, trade, food balance sheets, food aid shipments, land use and irrigation, forest  products, fishery products, and population.

Purdue University Agricultural Economics: Prices & Outlook Program

The site contains current and historical information on major commodities, land and other inputs, agricultural trade, and the general economy.

USDA Economics,Statistics, and Market Information System

The Mann Library at Cornell University serves as the official site for the USDA Economics and Statistics System. Currently there are nearly 300 reports and datasets from USDA's three economics agencies: the Economic Research Service (ERS), the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), and the World Agricultural Outlook Board (WAOB).  Many files are updated daily. The datasets are often in tabular format and will be displayed as Excel or Lotus 123 spreadsheets if your search software is set to recognize those file types.

USDA Economic Research Service

ERS provides analyses of the economics issues affecting the U.S. food and agriculture sector's competiveness, marketing and market and nonmarket trade barriers.

USDA - FASOnline: Foreign Agriculture Service

Export information, Commodity, trade data, and trade policy information is available from the USDA FAS.

World Bank: Health, Nutrition, & Population

News, publications, and country data on health and nutrition is available from this department of the World Bank.

World Development Indicators

World Bank data from publications such as Social Indicators of Development, World Debt Tables, and World Tables
