Discussion Papers - CEPR (Centre for Economic Policy Research)

CEPR's research is conducted by a network of over 600 researchers who retain their academic bases. The Centre helps its Fellows and Affiliates develop and obtain funding for research, administer and execute these projects and disseminate the results of the research. Over 3000 Discussion Paper Abstracts are currently available online and all Discussion Papers published since the beginning of 1999 (i.e. from No2050) are available as electronic PDF files. 

Econlit

Produced by the American Economic Association, EconLit is the fundamental research tool in economics. The database covers the international literature on economics since 1969 and provides bibliographic citations, with selected abstracts, of journal articles, books, dissertations and working papers, as well as articles in collective works, such as conference proceedings, collected essay volumes and full text book reviews. Topics include economic development, forecasting, and history; fiscal and monetary theory; business and public finance; international, health care, regional and urban economics, and more.

OmniFile Full Text Mega

OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition is a multi-disciplinary database providing the complete content from six of Wilson's full-text databases: Wilson Business Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, Education Full Text, General Science Full Text, Humanities Full Text, and Readers' Guide Full Text. Full-text articles from five additional periodical databases are also included when available: Biological & Agricultural Index, Index to Legal Periodicals & Books, Applied Science & Technology Full Text, Art Full Text, and Library Literature & Information Science Full Text.

Social Science Research Network

Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in each of the social sciences.
The SSRN eLibrary consists of two parts: an Abstract Database containing abstracts on over 98,700 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers and an Electronic Paper Collection currently containing over 71,700 downloadable full text documents in Adobe Acrobat pdf format.

County Business Patterns

County Business Patterns is an annual series that provides subnational economic data by industry. Data are provided by industry in the following economic divisions: agricultural services, forestry, and fishing; mining; construction; manufacturing; transportation and public utilities; wholesale trade; retail trade; finance, insurance, and real estate; and services. Data are tabulated by industry as defined in the Standard Industrial Classification Manual: 1987.

CPI Detailed Report

The most comprehensive report of the Consumer Price Index which is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services.

Economagic: Economic Time Series Page

This page is a site of free, easily accessible economic time series data useful for economic research. At this time, there are more than 100,000 time series for which data and custom charts can be retrieved. Though the greatest utility of this site is the vast number of economic time series, and the easily modified charts of that same data, an overlooked facility of great utility is the availability of Excel files for all series. The majority of the data is USA data. The core data sets involve US macroeconomic data (that is, for the whole US), but the bulk of the data is employment data by local area--state, county, MSA, and many cities and towns.

The Economic Indicators are prepared for the Joint Economic Committee by the Council of Economic advisors and is published and updated monthly.

Federal Reserve Economic Data

The FRED system provides historical U.S. economic and financial data in 12 broad categories: business/fiscal data, daily/weekly U.S. financial data, exchange rate/balance of payments data, GDP, monthly commercial banking data, monthly CPI, monthly employment and population data, monthly interest rates, monthly monetary data, monthly PPI, monthly reserves data and regional data (for Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee). The site is sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

International Financial Statistics (IFS)

Data gathered by the IMF on exchange rates, money and banking, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government finance and national accounts for most countries.

STAT USA

STAT-USA is a primary point for access to government business-related statistics of all kinds, including the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). The section entitled "Frequently Requested Statistical Releases" includes all types of economic data from GDP figures and interest rates to housing starts and retail sales. A searchable version of Commerce Business Daily is available here as well as the Survey of Current Business since 1994. Most of the applications on this site require Adobe-Acrobat software which can be downloaded for free. To gain access to this database, an ID and password are required or use the Internet PCs in the Management & Economics Library. Consult the Reference Staff in your library to gain access.

Statistical Abstract of the U.S.

The Statistical Abstract of the U.S. is a collection of statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States.  Selected international data are also included. The complete Statistical Abstract of the U. S. in PDF format for 1995-1997 (at present) is available at this site. The data is listed by Table Number, so you must know which table you need before using this source. However, the index is also available in PDF format.

USA Counties

USA Counties 1998 features over 5,000 data items for the United States, States, counties and equivalent areas. Information is derived from the following general topics: age, agriculture, ancestry, banking, building permits, business patterns, crime, earnings, education, elections, government, health, households, housing, income, labor force and employment, manufactures, population, poverty, retail trade, services industries, social programs, veterans, vital statistics, and wholesale trade.

US Building Permits Data

This application provides building permit statistics on new residential and nonresidential construction; additions, alterations and conversions; and demolitions. Data items include number of buildings, units, and construction cost for monthly new privately-owned residential Building Permits and are updated monthly.

World Development Indicators

World Bank data from publications such as Social Indicators of Development, World Debt Tables, and World Tables.

ZIP Code Business Patterns

ZIP Code Business Patterns provides data on total number of establishments and number of establishments by employment-size classes by detailed industry. Data on mid-March employment, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll are summarized by Zip Code without industry detail. Data is collected annually.
