GS175: Information Strategies


Schedule of Classes

The overall goal of the course is to help you develop a systematic and accurate method for finding information in any setting.  It introduces you to the core concepts of information retrieval and essential techniques for finding, synthesizing, evaluating and sharing information.

As you become adept at using information sources you will find that these skills benefit you personally and professionally.

Information literacy skills will:

  • improve the quality of your research and design projects
  • make your job hunting easier and more effective
  • help you select the best consumer products for your needs
  • provide tools you need to navigate through many of life's challenging situations.

After you successfully complete this course, you will be able to:

  • explain how information is organized and disseminated
  • define your own information needs and develop an efficient plan to retrieve it
  • use relevant resources to identify needed information
  • evaluate and select information
  • organize, synthesize and share information
