Reference Services Mission Statement
Purdue University Libraries (PUL) reference services play a key role in fulfilling the Libraries' mission and vision of optimizing access to resources by guiding users, at the point of need, in the effective identification, navigation, evaluation, and interpretation of information resources.
Reference staff provide prompt and timely assistance by selecting and maintaining a well-balanced collection of resources in a variety of formats, facilitating patrons' ability to freely access information resources, and fostering learning to enable self-reliance. We respect the dignity of individuals and promote their intellectual and academic freedom, and we strive to uphold the principles of privacy and confidentiality. PUL values a proactive staff characterized by professionalism and competence, and who exercise judgment independently of personal bias.
