Khartoum

Khartoum, Sudan

June 13, 1937

After a night at El Fasher, Earhart and Navigator Fred Noonan flew further into Anglo Egyptian Sudan in the morning. The distance between El Fasher and Khartoum was 500 miles. During the first half of the flight the terrain below was utterly flat and uninhabited. It lacked landmarks altogether, at least for the uninitiated flyer. Khartoum was the capital of Anglo- Egyptian Sudan, situated beside the Nile, 1350 miles south of Cairo. A rail and steamer provided transport between the two cities. Amelia stopped only briefly at this historical capital of Sudan.
