Amelia touched down at 3:35 EDST at St. Louis. The city was the headquarters of Air France, and had excellent field facilities. Amelia had intended to land at Dakar, 163 miles south of St. Louis. During the flight Amelia made a left turn, as it seemed more attractive. Thick haze was to the south, towards Dakar. They remained overnight.
