Image Editing

Photoshop CS has been purchased for the necessary image editing and manipulation.

Scanning

For scanning Purdue uses SilverFast scanning software form LaserSoft Imaging. SilverFast produces high quality images in an exceptionally short time. SilverFast has facilities for negative Optimization, Descreening printed images, export to PDF and many other features.

The Bookeye 3 includes Opus scanning management software. The OPUS software creates an integrated workflow for digitizing and preservation of objects. It includes auto focus, auto crop, automatic generation of derivitives, automated splitting of "two-up" images, automatic book-fold correction, and automated de-skewing.

Calibration

Additionally Monaco’s EZcolor program has been acquired to use in color quality control. The team chose to acquire the OPTIX colorimeter to enhance the color management capability.

Optical Character Recognition

Digital initiatives uses two different OCR programs. The stand-alone version of ABBYY Finereader is available. In addition CONTENTdm has integrated ABBYY OCR software. In addition the Bookeye 3 scanner comes equiped with Readiris.

Quality Control

During the quality control process each tiff is opened and checked to insure that each object meets scanning standards. The digitization team has chosen AsTiffTagViewer for this vital step in the process. This makes it possible to check the image header without the time consuming process of opening each image in an editor.

Digital Content Publishing

CONTENTdm 4.2 - CONTENTdm provides tools for everything from organizing and managing to publishing and searching digital collections over the Internet.

A powerful and flexible digital collection management package, CONTENTdm handles all documents, PDFs, images, video, and audio files. CONTENTdm is used by libraries, universities, government agencies, museums, corporations, historical societies, and a host of other organizations to support hundreds of diverse digital collections.
