Welcome to the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center Tutorial. The goal of this tutorial is to acquaint you with archival research and the use of primary sources; and the collections here in the Purdue University Libraries' Archives and Special Collections. Goal:
  • Increased information literacy competencies of Purdue University students
Objectives:
  • Students will become familiar with the resources available in Archives and Special Collections.
  • Students will learn how to locate holdings in the Archives and Special Collections to use for class projects and research
  • Students will understand the researcher registration process and become familiar with the security and preservation rules that govern access to collections in Archives and Special Collections
  • Students will be able to distinguish between primary, secondary, tertiary sources and understand the importance of utilizing primary sources for scholarly research
  • Students will learn how to locate archival materials outside of the collections available at Purdue by becoming familiar with major bibliographic databases such as ArchiveGrid, Archive Finder , and WorldCat.
