About the physical exhibit

Portrait of a Founder, John Purdue and Purdue University was an exhibit in Purdue University Libraries, Archives & Special Collections from April 3-July 17, 2009. It was co-sponsored by Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union (PEFCU). Purdue faculty responsible for item selection and label text for the exhibit are David Hovde, Sammie Morris, and Elizabeth Wilkinson. Materials for the exhibit came from several collections in the Archives and Special Collections. The exhibit celebrated the 140th anniversary of the founding of Purdue University in 1869 and the grand opening of the new Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections Research Center. At the exhibit grand opening celebration on April 21, Irena McCammon Scott, John Purdue's great-great-grandniece, presented a lecture on her book, "Uncle: My Journey with John Purdue."

About the online exhibit

This online exhibit was created to share information about John Purdue with a wider audience, and to serve as a resource after the physical exhibit ended. Materials were taken from the exhibit and scanned using an Epson Expression 10000XL Photo Scanner and using Silverfast 6.4.1 r8c by Lazersoft scanning software. Artifacts were photographed using a Nikon D60 camera and a 60 mm lens.
