Copyright
law originated with the United States Constitution. In Article I, Section
8, the Constitution states that "Congress shall have the power...To promote
the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times
to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings
and Discoveries".
- The Copyright Office
of the Library of Congress is responsible for overseeing the administrative
functions of the copyright law.
- Congress enacts
copyright laws.
- The Federal courts
interpret and enforce the copyright law.
